The Gift of Life
I didn't give you the gift of life,
But in my heart I know.
The love I feel is deep and real,
As if it had been so.

For us to have each other
Is like a dream come true!
No, I didn't give you
The gift of life,
Life gave me the gift of you.

Toddler Talk Thursday

As a parent, I tend to think each step is going to be a little bit easier.  I find myself being wrong time and time again.  For instance, I entertained the thought of Early Intervention to assist John McRae with his language development and phonics skills.  I was so sure that he'd never speak a full sentence.  Well now, he never shuts up.  It's like one day he spouted out a sentence and he hasn't quit talking yet, even during sleeping hours.  We've swapped roles these days, too.  The table turned from me constantly asking him, "What's that, John McRae?" to him asking me, "What's that, Mama?"  I guess he figures it is payback for me asking him all of those redundant questions for over a year when he knew the obvious answer, but was too occupied with his own interests to actually speak the answer to me.  He's certainly a lot of fun these days, though.  Daniel and I are amazed at the things that come out of his mouth, especially when it is coin change. The kid must have some sort of vitamin deficiency.  Then, there is potty training.  I thought he'd never agree to using the potty.  I even told him that I was not going to support his diaper habit past age 15 without some form of medical condition.  He was very adamant that he was not going to use the potty, even if he got to go see the animals.  Then, one evening he just decided to go in the pasture...and he hasn't quit yet.  Now, he's even doing #2 in the potty.  Now this is one parenting step that I secretly (kind of, or maybe I was a little vocal about it) dreaded.  While there was the peer pressure of my kid being the only one that didn't use the pot, I did not feel that I'd ever be ready to fool with the aggravations and inconveniences of it. That is just a purely honest, horrible mother statement.  Yesterday, it proved to be true.  We were in Petco and I saw him kinda tugging at himself so we ran to the bathroom just in time for him to touch every disgusting thing in there and rub his scratched up knee on the side of the toilet into something that looked to be poop.  OMGosh, I always knew public restrooms were germ festivals, but until I had a potty-training toddler, I never really had to worry about any of that nasty funk ending up in my mouth or in the mouths of people I love.  Washed hands and hand sanitizer on the legs later, we were back to the snakes. (Insert my MIL wanting to shake me at this point because I'm freaking out about the poop in scratch scenario, and the mental image of her rubbing the sanitizer onto JMc's legs. Ha Ha - Love you, Grammaw!) Rock on about an hour when  MIL and I were in town doing all of the things that make John McRae happy when he said, "I gotta pee pee."  So, I put the gas cap back on the car (No, he does not enjoy watching me pump gas, but we had been to see the animals and to eat rice) and headed to the vacant, most secluded section of SAM'S parking lot to let him do his business.  The "I'm almost done" probably should have been an indication that I was too late, but I was certainly reassured of it when I started to unbuckle him and get him out of his car seat to find wet pants, wet car seat, and a smirking kid.  After telling him, "accidents happen, every day" (sang in the tune of Elmo in my head) and telling him he's doing a great job, I blotted him and his seat with wipes and then took a case off of a pillow to put over his car seat.  Ready, set, go! We were on the road again. Fun times, to say the least, but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

XOXO,
Stacy :)

If God Loves, Me, why...?

I received this in my email and thought others might enjoy it, too. XOXO, Stacy (First iPad post, yay!) May 16, 2012 If God Loves Me, why...? By Renee Swope "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) Soon after I surrendered my life to Christ, I started struggling with painful things from my past that made me doubt God's promises for my future. I wondered: If God loves me, why has He allowed so much pain in my life? If He loved me, why did God allow my family to be broken by adultery and divorce, shattered by confusion and chaos, shaken by alcohol and drug addictions and so much more? And why didn't He stop me from the pain I brought on myself, or keep me from the darkness of depression? One afternoon I found the courage to tell my friend Wanda about my doubts and questions. I was surprised she didn't give me a pat answer, but looked at me with understanding in her eyes and told me she was sorry. Then she shared her story, which included many disappointments and heartbreaks. Yet, I didn't sense doubt or pain in her words. Instead, I sensed confidence and hope. Turning the pages of her Bible to Jeremiah 29, Wanda read today's key verse as a promise to me: "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'" (v. 11) She then told me God wanted to heal the pain of my past and use what I'd experienced to pave the way to His plans for my future. But I didn't want God to use my pain or my past. How would any of it do anything good for anyone, especially me? Have you ever felt that way about your pain or your past? Have you ever asked: "If God loves me, then why...?" These are the kind of questions that can linger in our hearts when we've been wounded and disappointed. And hurts that aren't healed can lead to bitterness and bondage. Yet, in the security of a relationship with Jesus, God invites us to ask hard questions and look for answers that usher us into the depths of His redeeming love and healing power. Can I whisper some hope into your heart today? If you are living and breathing, your purpose has not yet been fulfilled. No matter what you have done or what has been done to you, God does have a plan for your life. So, how can you discover those plans? Let's read the premise that follows the promise in Jeremiah 29. After God declares He knows the plans He has for us, He says, "Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." (v.12-13) We find God's plans when we surrender ours to Him each day. It's a moment by moment process of coming to Him, talking to Him, believing He listens and letting Him love us into a place of hope and healing. God's love is not a quick-fix for our wounds, but it has the power to redeem and restore us into confident hope. When we allow the Holy Spirit poured out like Living water to go deep into our pain, He can heal our hearts from the inside out. As we process the pain of our yesterdays and live through the disappointments of our todays, doubts may still creep up, threatening to steal our hope. But each time that happens, we can stop and seek God in that place. We can ask Him to show us His purpose by revealing what is true about who we are and what we have been through to make us start doubting. Then we can ask Him to help us re-define our future, not through the filter of our past and pain, but through the power of His life-giving truth. And do you know what happens when we do that moment by moment, day by day, doubt by doubt? God tells us in Jeremiah 29:14, "I will be found by you...and will bring you back from captivity." We find Him again and again. We find the One who longs to lead us out of captivity to our doubts into a place of freedom and hope. I know this is true because I have walked it, wrestled with it, resisted it and finally surrendered to it. God's love is not only unfailing, it redeems and restores. His Truth cuts to the core of our struggles, bringing purpose to our pain, redemption from our past and hope for our future! Lord, heal my hurts and give me hope as I learn to trust the plans You have for me. I'm coming to You and seeking You with all my heart today. Please set me free from my doubts and lead me into a place of confident hope. In Jesus' Name, Amen. Related Resources: Do You Have a Relationship with Jesus? John McRae @ 37 Months

Yes, 37 months
because THREE years old sounds so much
like a big boy... and not like a baby!

1 - He's finally using the potty.
(insert disbelief here. I had already told him
that when he turned 15, he
was getting a job to support his diaper habit.)

2) He can count to 25, backwards from
15, and to 10 in Spanish.

3) He knows all of the letters of the alphabet and can tell you which words start with what letters.

4) He is sleeping in his own bed, in his own room.
(I promise, this is the real truth and nothing but the truth. Miracles do happen and this is one of them.)

5) He loves playing outside. The sand is his favorite.

6) He's very busy and VERY stubborn.

7) He can work the television remote better than I can.

8) He can take an iPhone, load YouTube, and search for the videos he wants to watch.

9) He loves strawberry milk.

10) He loves snack time.

11) He is obsessed with birthdays and birthday parties.  The cutest thing is when he sings
"Happy Birthday to You and So Many Mooore..."

12) He loves his family and knows everyone by name. You all might not hear him, but he names every family member most every night by saying, "I pray for Grammaw, Paw-Paw, Granny, Paw-Paw & Nana, Mamaw, Wisa, Jess, Aunt Bett, Uncle Gerald, ReeRee Mike, Mama, Daddy, John, My Bubble-Puppy, Fresh Beat Band, Ninny,... and the list goes on. and on. and on.  sometimes until I have to make him stop. =)

13) He loves animals.  My bad, he is obsessed with animals.

14) He loves chicken bock bock and corn.

15) He wants to do everything by himself these days.

16) He is always saying, "Mama, what's dat? What's dat, Mama?"

17) He loves being read to.

18) Nothing would make him any happier than if he grew up to be the lead singer for Fresh Beat Band. The one who raps, of course.

19) He still likes for his Mama to rock him. =)

20) He likes for his Daddy to hold him up to the goal so he can play basket ball.

21) He loves going to the zoo, but cries non-stop for hours when he leaves.

22) He is grateful. He tells us daily, "Thank you for my birthday party."  He also thanks us for every little thing. It is so sweet. If he sees an airplane flying by while we are driving down the road, he says, "Thank you for taking me to see airplane, Mama Dada."

23) He is hung up on knock-knock jokes.
His favorite one goes like this:
JMc: Knock Knock, Mama Dada.
Mama Dada: Who's there?
JMc: Knock Knock, Mama Dada.

Mama Dada together because he will not stop until we say it together: Who's there?
JMc: Animals.
MD: AnimalWho?
JMc: Bunch of animals go hahahahaha!

And my very favorite:
JMc: Knock Knock, MD.

Us: Who's there?
JMc: Banana.
Us: Banana Who?

JMc: Banana.
Us: Banana Who?
JMc: Orange you glad didn't say Banana.
Hahahaha

24) He doesn't forget ANYTHING.

25) He has a sense of direction that amazes us. He knows exactly where we are going, whether it is local or out of state.

26) When he goes into a restaurant and the waiter asks us what we would like to drink, he yells, "I WANT COKE!"

27) He loves for us to draw what he instructs us to.  Then, he does not even look at it before he says to draw something else. He loves art, but just doesn't know how to appreciate it just yet. Ha!

28) He is our biggest blessing.

29) He loves to play the harmonica.

30) He would rather be toted, and at 31 lbs, I still tote him everywhere.

31) He is a climber and isn't scared of anything.  The kid has no fear or concept of danger.  He makes house guests nervous.

32) He is totally cute in a hat and is a snazzy dresser.

33) He is a people person. He speaks to everyone he sees and then tells them goodbye. This is awkward in public, at times. We will be walking down the isle at Wal-Mart and every person we pass..."Hello, Bye!"

34) Folks think he is the cutest. I have to agree.

35) He's incredibly smart and I'm not just saying that because he's my kid! ;)

36) He is beginning to tell us that he is from Korea and he rode on a big airplane.

37) He might not know it, but he makes his Daddy and Me feel like the luckiest folks on Earth.  He tests our patience daily, but never our love!

XOXO,
Stacy

I'm from the country

and I like it that way.
(well, most of the time.)

This is a copy of an email I received on April 5th and I just got around to reading it.
Busy, much..no, not me!

Enjoy the laugh if you are Southern, and if you aren't, enjoy a laugh at our expense.

A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road.

There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 of them live in the South.

There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 of them live in the South, plus a couple no one's seen before.

If it grows, it'll stick ya. If it crawls, it'll bite cha.

Onced and Twiced are words.

It is not a shopping cart, it is a buggy!

Jawl-P? means, Did you all go to the bathroom?

People actually grow, eat and like okra.

Fixinto is one word. It means I'm going to do that.

There is no such thing as lunch. There is only dinner and then there's supper.

Iced tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar. It is referred to as the Wine of the South.

Backwards and forwards means I know everything about you.

The word jeet is actually a question meaning, 'Did you eat?'

You don't have to wear a watch, because it doesn't matter what time it is, you work until you're done or it's too dark to see.

You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH em.

Ya'll is singular. All ya'll is plural.

All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect, or animal.

You carry jumper cables in your car - for your OWN car.

You only own five spices: salt, pepper, mustard, Tabasco and ketchup.

The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local high school sports, the motor sports, and gossip.

Everyone you meet is a Honey, Sugar, Miss(first name) or Mr.(first name)

You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.

You know what a hissy fit is..

Fried catfish is the other white meat.

We don't need no dang Driver's Ed. If our mama says we can drive, we can drive!!!
